Petra Tavano, DVM

 

Dr. Tavano  was born and raised in the Sacramento area. She has always had a passion for animals, and worked for several years before veterinary school as an emergency and ICU veterinary technician. After graduating with highest honors from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior, she stayed at UC Davis and completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. Dr. Tavano worked at several high volume 24 hour general practice and emergency clinics in Sacramento, Stockton, Yuba City, and Merced for the next 8 years. While she enjoyed the excitement and challenges of emergency medicine, she missed the continuity of general practice and dreamed of one day opening her own hospital.

In 2019, a colleague recommended that she work in reproductive medicine and she quickly found that she loved it! Not only were the patients and the clients amazing to work with, but comprehensive reproductive care from health testing to breeding and whelping care is something that is desperately needed in our community. And as a bonus it is an exciting challenge that would keep her on her toes! Dr. Tavano’s goal is to work hand in hand with breeders to create healthy, stable minded dogs for the betterment of the breeds.

In 2020, she opened Willow Creek Veterinary Clinic and has assembled a wonderful team! We are excited to provide not only reproductive services but also wellness care to her past, present, and future clients.

Dr. Tavano currently resides in Fair Oaks with her husband Greg, her son Samuel, her dogs Eytan and Cardi B, and her four cats, Dora, Gracie, Zazu, and Marie. She also has an adult daughter Alyssa who resides in Elk Grove. While she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, her special interests are feline, geriatric, dermatology, emergency, and pediatric and reproductive medicine. When not being a veterinarian or caring for her kids and furry family, she enjoys traveling, hot yoga, and spending time with her family and friends.
